Permanent Damage
I’m a comic news junkie. It’s probably not a good thing. I know all about Jason Aaron’s exclusive deal at Marvel well before I hear about a posse of kids in Sydney walking around a high school with machetes looking for the Year 11 kids. My priorities may be tad off, or they could be perfectly on the money, depends on what you really want to know about. Awesome creators or shitty kids?
I always check the news, first CBR, then Newsarama and then Wizard. I do it because it is a direct way for me to see what being published, so I know what to add to my pull list. I also get to read about other writers, which can be quite interesting and really informative. Plus, I just get to nerd out completely!
I like the columns on CBR, they just have a nice feel to them. Permanent Damage is written by Steven Grant and is one that I always check out, he just gets his rant on completely. Anything goes and I always find it interesting. In his column he runs a contest; there are 7 comic covers and you have to guess what the connecting theme is, could be an artist, a colour scheme, a character or a prop. The person who wins the comp gets to promote a website of their choice.
Last week I entered, and…I didn’t win. But no one did so he picked someone at random, and guess who it was, yeah, me. So, being the self-aggrandising egotist that I’ve trained hard to be, I didn’t choose a charity website or someone else who I think is doing good work, no I chose this blog right here that you hold in your sweaty little palms (figuratively speaking, and if it’s literal, dude, put the laptop down!). It was pretty cool to see my name way down the bottom and an honest to blog (said very very very sarcastically, Juno I hate you!!!) link that brings you right here. Hey, if you are here right now from Permanent Damage say g’day to me! Go on, do it! I dare ya!
As for my writing, I pumped out an issue yesterday of my Space story. I found a good system for writing. Write a page, or at least a few panels, and then read a page, or two, of North World. Before I knew it I had devoured North World and I had an issue finished. It was a pretty good day, but I will talk about North World another day, man is it good!
I also emailed and messaged a few artists that I found on the BOOM! Studios artist gallery forum, but I guess they all want work that pays, like, right away. Yeah, sorry, not going to happen. I write on spec and just want a collaborator that will help me pick up the fat cheques later. That’s just how I roll. So that sucked, some of them were really good, and stupendously nice, so I am keeping an eye on their websites. So, still no one to draw my Fate mini, but I haven’t hit up digitalwebbing yet, and they yielded a positive result for me last time. Just want to give the four issues one more proof read and then set my little ad out into the big scary world.
It’s another rainy day, so time to get a tea and write another few pages for my Space story, man I wish I had a title for it, Space! Just won’t cut it in the stands; will it?
