North World
I was reading Resurrection, issue two I think, not issue three with my sweet letter printed, and there was a preview for a comic called North World. It’s about some guy getting about, and he looks like he is just some dude rocking it, but then he pulls out a sword and attacks some giant bear. He’s talking about paying bards to sing about his quests and all that sort of stuff. Sort of like some updated version of the knight myth with kids from today. It seemed pretty cool, and I liked it, but then the kicker was that I could read it for FREE on the wwInterweb.
You click that link above and you will enter a whole new world. It’s about Conrad, an adventurer who left home seven years ago and has been trying to make his name as a big animal killer ever since. We see him kicking ass with a big bear at first, then he gets a gig for a demon job, but it takes him home. Home where his ex is getting married. From there mayhem and hilarity ensue, ha, I just love saying that.
It’s the little things in North World that get me, Conrad gets his gigs from an agency, kinda like a low rent actor, the bard talk just took me straight back to my Asterix days of yore, plus it is well written and nicely drawn. Each page is simple but the story is clearly conveyed and emotion and theme are present when necessary.
Lars Brown, the author/artist, does a great job of making you understand the characters quickly. I have my favourites, and favourite moments; he has a gift for the quality lines that crop up. He also shows the emotion present when Conrad meets his replacement with his old flame, or the meeting with his estranged father.
The site is easy to navigate, and coming in late, as I did, gave me a plethora of information to gobble up and immerse myself in. It also seems to be a story where beats in one act will affect the next acts, all in due time.
I am really digging this comic, and check it weekdaily to see if there is an update. I want to know what is going to happen with a lot of these characters.
Also, Conrad has some sweet sweet sideburns!
Lars Brown, I salute you from the land down under.
Cheers,

Wrote another chapter for Bobsy McMilko, am liking it more and more. Not sure if anyone above the age of twelve should be reading it though…
