The Warm Sunny Cold Day Soup
Or, The Bloody Tequila Mary Broth of Good Times
This soup is destined to clear the soul, the heart, the head and the bed in the morning.
Ingredients
• Water
• Campbell’s Vegetable stock – 1 litre
• Morpeth Port
• Tabasco sauce
• Salt and pepper
• Garlic Powder
• Oregano
• Cajun spices
• Bacon
• Sweet Potato
• Green capsicum
• Mushrooms – 7 of the little bastards
• Zucchini
• Carrots – 2
Things to do, what order, and how to do them:
1. Put some (vague measure) water into the pot.
2. Empty the litre of vegie stock into the water and set on the stove at a medium to high temp. Add some Tabasco and port if you like, you’ll be doing it a few times throughout the process.
3. Cook the bacon lightly.
4. Cut the bacon into strips and throw into pot. * Don’t actually throw it, this may cause splashing and burns that are unwarranted, but hey, you should be cooking with pants on dude.
5. Cut up your seven little ‘shrooms and throw them into the mix.
6. This is where you may add some pepper, salt, garlic, oregano and Cajun to suit. Lime may also be used to temper it all out and make yourself feel a little more exotic.
7. Cut the sweet potato into digestible chunks and place into the fray. Set the temp to max so that the sweet potato will now cook.
8. Chop up capsicum, zucchini and carrot and stuff them into the mix. Don’t forget to stir it all in.
9. Liberally add more Tabasco, and all the other stuff. Remember the ration, one port for the pot, one port for you. A happy chef is a happy eater.
10. Leave to pseudo-boil for a while (however long you like really), remember to stir it occasionally so it doesn’t burn on the bottom.
11. Let the soup sit on simmer for the rest of the day.
12. Set the soup in the fridge overnight and go out and have a real meal and get drunk with the boys.
13. Get the soup out and let it warm all day on the stove. Your house will smell nice, and you’ll be happy in knowing that you don’t have to stumble out of your hangover and actually cook. Score!
14. Enjoy with buttery bread, some water, a good flick and a chaser of Doritos.
