Words Of Wisdom
I have a great quote on my wall above my laptop. I’ve been looking at it every day, many times a day, for the last few weeks since it was printed off and put up.
Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.
- Anton Chekhov
I think that is just brilliant and completely how I want to write. I think about it constantly to ensure that my prose is not repetitious or pedestrian. Always emote in your writing, it’s what I tell the kids and it’s what I strive to do myself.

I am completely excited about a new publication coming from Marvel this December.
Incognito - from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips
It’s another superhero noir story. A former supervillain is now in witness protection and his pills keep him feeling ‘normal’. What a fantastic fucking premise! To read a quality, but small, interview with Brubaker, with sneak peaks at the art, click here.
The last time Brubaker and Phillips trod these boards they gave us Sleeper which is hands down one of my favourite stories (of any genre or publication type) of all time. It is just brilliant. If you haven’t checked out Sleeper before then you owe it to yourself to get on eBay or Amazon now and check it out. Four trades collect the entire story and it is something that you will want to read more than once. Absolute certified gold dust.
It was Sleeper that showed me that comics can be that little bit more. I don’t think Sleeper would be as cool as a novel, or even a movie first. This will always be a comic in my head and I love that. Comics are more than just the standard superheroes. They can be anything you want. Anything.
I will be buying Incognito each month as it comes out. I cannot wait, truth be told.

My monthly pull list came in today. I love that The Boys is always guaranteed to ship monthly, they have such an awesome schedule going. I am also pumped to read the first issue of The Stand: Captain Trips. It’s such a good novel, and I have faith in the comic, a lot of faith. There’s also the assorted regulars for me, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Iron Man and Criminal.
