A Stocking Stuffed With Stuffing and Stockings
Writing over xmas can be about as futile as trying to exercise over xmas, or eat healthy. Sometimes you have to just sit down and realise that certain things are not going to happen. My mind works in the way that I figure if I do enough of it throughout the year then I am allowed a little leeway at this festive season and so can afford a bit of a blow out. Haven’t been for a run for days (though did fit in an hour and a half walk the other night, getting lost can sometimes be of benefit), have eaten more pizza in a week than I did in the entire last semester (though still pretty much abstaining on chocolate for personal reasons), have had a few sneaky drinks (but the next two days will be the real down fall of my sobriety) and have only found space for a few sit downs to write. I figure, xmas only comes once a year, and with sundry mothers, brothers, aunts and uncles traveling in to celebrate as a family, I should represent and hold court at our festivities. I know I’ll be back in the saddle come the new year. My last two New Year’s resolutions have been to write more, and each year I eclipse what I had done the previous year, so I will keep up the resolving and hopefully then keep up with more words.
What follows are the stocking fillers from my head, through our modems, and into your heart. Merry xmas all, and to all a good night.

First news; I have done some writing, I’m not a complete deadbeat.
I am just over 62k words. Coming along strong and big plans to knock it out of the park come the new year.

Only just realised that when people say they will play something by ear, they are referring to people who can play music without having to read it off paper, they can hear it and then replicate the notes. Not exciting news, i had just never thought about it, so am sharing my new knowledge with the world so that perhaps one person may learn something new this xmas.

Watched a few movies. Lucky Number Slevin was a solid piece of crime. I liked the performances and even though the script may have tried a little hard in places to be cute (and slightly predictable), I found it thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining. I like Josh Hartnett as an actor and don’t feel that he gets enough credit. The Faculty will always be a guilty pleasure.
The Prestige was a movie that I have been meaning to see ever since it came out. I thought it was bloody brilliant with great acting and a solid idea throughout. Another script that I thought worked well throughout. Two good movies to watch as I still ponder my next novel, a crime noir story about a teacher and a very seedy town. Can’t wait to think more on it and eventually write it.

Got The Dark Knight as an early xmas gift. Might even watch it tonight. I just find myself really wanting to see Heath Ledger as the Joker, again. He was so bloody good in that role. I can only wander what other presents tomorrow will bring…

Because the public demands it…
LOST will be returning in a matter of weeks. The trailer for season 5 is up on YouTube. I’ve subscribed to the poster, and there always seems to be new stuff, I love it. Another way to nerd it up thanks tot the wonder wwInterweb.
Motherfuck if that show isn’t just the best thing about periodical entertainment on the tube.

I have cancelled my comic subscription through the wonderful people at Minotaur. Sad days.
I will now be subduing my weekly addiction through Action Comics in Canberra. I can’t wait to get each title the week that it comes out instead of having to until the end of the month for my package. I’m so nerdily excited you can’t hold me down. Titles remaining in my pull list will be: Daredevil (natch), The Immortal Iron Fist, The Invincible Iron Man, The Boys, Criminal (Incognito while on hiatus), Casanova (when it returns), The Stand. Additions will be: Spider-Woman. Trades will be: The Walking Dead, Ex Machina (in glorious hard covers).
I’m thinking about getting Jason Aaron’s first trade of Ghost Rider because I hear such good things about it. It’s a possibility…who knows what the new year will bring…

Just watched the Wolverine: Origins trailer, and be damned if I am not excited about it. I still don’t know exactly what to expect, but I think it could be very good. Not quite Dark Knight, or Iron Man good, which were two films that stood up in mainstream film, but I think that it will be one kick ass comic flick. I just hope people don’t judge it against the two aforementioned movies, because that’s not fair. Just enjoy Hugh Jackman doing what he does best, and he certainly is the best at it. And Liev Schrieber looks fantastic as Victor Creed. Just wanna see more of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson.

Hoping to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button this week. I have faith in David Fincher and believe that this flick could possibly be better than the source writing, which is a big call, I can only think of two other examples of that, off the top of my head, ever happening.

ADDITION: Ed Brubaker’s Angel Of Death is coming soon to crackle.com
The trailer for it is HERE
I think it looks suitably kick ass and grindhouse as it should be. Some quality ideas, and high concepts, do not need to be tarted up. They need to be given to you in just the right way. This is that right way. I cannot wait to start watching these.

Have a good night, and make sure you leave some cookies out for Santa. If you don’t you never know what he might do.
