Minutemen – The Arcade Game
As a kid who spent many hours of his youth visiting Timezone, in Frankston, and in the city, I know me a good level fighting game when I see one. Games like Street Fighter and Mortal Combat were all prefaced by the level actioneer games like Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my personal favourite, Final Fight.
In these games you walk through seedy streets and you punch or kick opponents that randomly walk into your fists of fury. You get hit a bit, but you have a few lives and you usually make it through. You take out a few bosses, but you never finish the game. At least, I never did.
The games were good wholesome, head smashing fun. And all for sixty cents a game, that’s three twenty cent pieces, chump change. I played these games so much. I had one on the Super Nintendo, it was Spider-Man in Maximum Carnage. You’d walk the streets as Spidey, or Venom, and trash a bunch of losers on the street and every now and then get a boss who’d test you out. I don’t think I ever managed to get passed the Baxter Building. What a shame. But that game was the only reason I kept the whole console around, every few years busting it out just to rock out with Venom and stomp some heads. Good wholesome fun, just like I said.
The reason I am reminiscing so hard about these old school fighters is because I’ve found another one on the net.
It’s a three level game based on the original crime fighters in Watchmen.
You choose to be the original Nite Owl, or Silk Spectre.
Then you go stomp some goon ass. It’s simple, easy, and wholesome fun, Get it! Click the link above and play it up now.
It kinda reminds me of the old Jason Voorhees game where you’d walk around and play stabby with the campers and your machete. A simple game, but, you guessed it, wholesome fun. Not that I can find that game now. What a shame.
